Welcome

Office of Graduation Success Coaching Coaches

About Our Program

Graduation Coaches work with a diverse cohort of first-generation students throughout their entire time at Cleveland State University. By providing motivation, encouragement and guiding them to the available resources, coaches help students succeed academically and personally.

The goal of the program is to eliminate barriers and to keep students engaged in their learning and with each other. The Graduation Coaching Program aims to foster a community at CSU and help students build a network they can rely on beyond their time at Cleveland State University.

Our Approach

Retention Results: 82% first to second year retention rate compared to 51% for the same population prior to program’s existence (2018-2019 school year)

Meetings: Daily, weekly or bi-weekly meetings allow for close relationships between coaches and students

Hands-on: Coaches meet with students in person, through texts or calls and by visiting students in classes

Holistic: Coaches not only help with academic support, but also personal and professional development to foster well-rounded students
